Zamfara State has restated its commitment to preventing gender-based violence through advocacy, public sensitisation and enforcement of existing protective legislation.
The Zamfara State government publication said Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Dr. Aisha M.Z. Anka reiterated the position during a two-day national convening of GBV state coordinators in Lagos.
Represented by Director of Gender Asamau Madawaki, the commissioner called for stronger collective efforts to prevent violence, protect survivors and improve access to justice.
The state cited the Zamfara State Child Protection Law 2022 and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law as part of its legal framework for protecting survivors, preventing violence and pursuing perpetrators.
The Ministry said it continues to conduct community sensitisation campaigns and use jingles as well as live radio and television programmes to educate residents about GBV laws and the consequences of offences.
The state also called on the Federal Government, development partners and other stakeholders to sustain collaboration aimed at strengthening prevention, survivor protection, response mechanisms and access to justice.
