The Osun State Government has inaugurated a Special Task Force on Environmental Sanitation to strengthen enforcement of environmental laws and address sanitation infractions across the state.
An Osun State government publication reported that the Special Task Force on Environmental Sanitation was established to strengthen enforcement of environmental laws and support a clean and habitable environment across the state.
The task force is chaired by the Head of Service, Samuel Ayanleye Aina, with the Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mayowa Adejoorin, serving as deputy.
Its mandate includes addressing indiscriminate waste disposal in drains, roadsides and other locations capable of creating environmental nuisances, according to the publication.
The government directed members to conduct enforcement in accordance with the law and warned that persons found culpable of violating environmental laws could be prosecuted, while also stressing due process.
The task force, whose membership includes officials from government agencies and other relevant offices, is to commence work with immediate effect.
