Ondo State has unveiled the Lucky Light Initiative, a phased programme intended to provide solar electricity to 1,000 small businesses across the state's 18 local government areas.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa unveiled the initiative at the 2026 Ondo State Entrepreneurship Agency Entrepreneurs Summit in Akure, describing the intervention as an economic programme rather than a household electrification scheme.
According to the governor, the first phase will support businesses in batches, with subsequent phases expected to expand coverage until businesses across the state's 18 local government areas are reached.
The initiative was presented alongside a broader entrepreneurship programme covering business formalisation, skills acquisition, training, equipment, business support and access to markets through ONDEA.
The summit also recognised 20 entrepreneurs whose ideas were selected through the ONDEA My IDEA process. The source states that the beneficiaries are to receive funding and business support packages, with further exposure and mentorship opportunities.
The governor also announced plans to purchase shares in the Dangote Group of Companies for 500 young entrepreneurs. The source presents the measures as part of efforts to reduce business constraints, expand enterprise opportunities and encourage investment.
