Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has outlined a 203-ward agricultural programme designed around local production patterns, infrastructure needs, processing and market access.
Aiyedatiwa presented the programme at the FirstBank Agric and Export Expo 2026 in Lagos, saying agricultural interventions would be tailored to the commodities, farmers, cooperatives and infrastructure available in each ward.
He said cocoa, fishing, cassava, oil palm and livestock communities have different requirements and that communal and cluster farming could improve access to mechanisation, inputs, finance, aggregation and processing.
The governor said Ondo has distributed more than two million cocoa seedlings during the year and has also implemented rural road interventions. He identified power, water, storage and market access as important parts of the agricultural value chain.
The state is also preparing for changing international standards, including the European Union Deforestation Regulation, with a strategic committee and mapping process focused on cocoa traceability and compliance.
Aiyedatiwa called for investment in processing, logistics, storage, aquaculture, livestock, renewable energy and agricultural technology. The stated objective is to increase local value addition rather than limit investment to primary commodity production.
