The family of former Kogi State Governor Ibrahim Idris has pledged cooperation with the state government as preparations continue for his burial, with the state government saying it will take responsibility for the burial arrangements.
The family conveyed its position when the Burial Committee constituted by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo visited the family. The committee is chaired by Deputy Governor Joel Salifu Oyibo, who led the delegation during the interaction.
Head of the family Haruna Idris expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo and the state government for the support extended to the family following the former governor's death. He specifically acknowledged the government's decision to take full responsibility for the burial.
Haruna Idris said the family was prepared to work closely with the Burial Committee to ensure arrangements for the burial were carried out. The family and committee subsequently held a closed-door meeting to discuss family matters and burial arrangements.
Deputy Governor Oyibo said the government would work with the family to make the necessary arrangements for what he described as a dignified and befitting burial. The statement also recorded his description of the former governor's death as a major loss to Kogi State.
The committee includes senior state officials from the Secretary to the State Government's office, Governor's Office, Information and Communications, Transportation, Protocol and other government units. The source confirms ongoing preparations but does not provide a burial date or detailed programme of ceremonies.
