The National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Titus Audu Amba, has praised Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris for his background in teaching and union leadership while citing reported interventions in education and other sectors.
Amba made the remarks in Abuja while receiving Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi and members of the state's media team at the NUT National Secretariat.
He recalled that Governor Idris had held several positions within the NUT and labour movement before becoming governor, including Branch Chairman, State Chairman, National Treasurer, Vice President and National President of the union, as well as Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The NUT president attributed reported changes in Kebbi to interventions in roads, education, healthcare, workers' welfare and street lighting, while also commending the governor's reported practice of personally monitoring development projects.
The Kebbi Commissioner for Information and Culture highlighted interventions including teacher recruitment, school construction and renovation, payment of the ₦75,000 national minimum wage, healthcare expansion and the creation of institutions for solid-minerals development.
The commissioner also said the state had attracted interest from companies in China, Indonesia, India and Brazil in mineral resources including lithium, while reporting that improved security had contributed to the reopening of some previously closed markets.
