Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has presented 19-year-old Maryam Ibrahim Dan’azumi, winner of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in Saudi Arabia, to Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Maryam, a student of Abubakar Siddiq Community Islamic School in Gombe, emerged overall winner in the prestigious global contest covering the entire Holy Qur'an, recitation, Tajweed, and Tafsir, marking a historic milestone as the maiden year female contestants were admitted into the competition.
Receiving the young scholar alongside her parents, teachers, and a high-powered state delegation, Senator Oluremi Tinubu praised Maryam's triumph and presented her with a N20 million educational grant to support her academic pursuits.
The First Lady commended Gombe State's purposeful leadership in education, gender inclusion, and vulnerable youth empowerment, singling out the Gombe Tsangaya Integrated School System as a model worthy of national replication.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated that bringing Maryam to the Presidency was intended to celebrate a shared national pride and highlight the state's deliberate investments in girl-child education and Islamic scholarship.
National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education Executive Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sani Idris also commended the state's progressive framework, noting that Maryam's success dispels misconceptions regarding the compatibility of Qur'anic and Western education.
