The Edo State Government is deepening collaboration with the national Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project as it seeks to strengthen livestock production, value chains and implementation of the programme across the state.
The Edo State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Ohimai Ehijimetor, held a working meeting with the National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Sanusi Abubakar, at the project's National Coordinating Office in Abuja. The engagement focused on cooperation between the state and national project structures.
Ehijimetor said the engagement was intended to deepen coordination, strengthen local livestock productivity and support continuity in project delivery. He also reaffirmed the Edo State Government's commitment to implementing the L-PRES initiative under the state's SHINE Agenda.
The commissioner said closer alignment with national targets and implementation guidelines would help Edo access resources for livestock farmers and other participants in the value chain. The national project coordinator, in response, assured the delegation of continued technical support.
The areas identified for potential strengthening include feed and fodder production, breed improvement, animal health services, infrastructure and market linkages. These are components of the livestock value chain rather than reported completed outcomes from the September 23 engagement.
The meeting therefore establishes an ongoing state-national implementation relationship around L-PRES. The immediate development is the renewed coordination and technical engagement; the source does not provide specific new funding amounts, completed projects or quantified production gains resulting from the meeting.
