The Edo government publication said the programme is being implemented with the African Cataract Eye Foundation and other private-sector partners. More than 200 people had benefited from the intervention at the Edo Specialist Hospital on Sapele Road.

Commissioner for Health Cyril Adams Oshiomhole said the initiative forms part of the state's efforts to improve access to healthcare. He also informed residents that free malaria treatment is available at government hospitals and selected private hospitals across the state.

The African Cataract Eye Foundation said its programme was planned to provide 200 cataract surgeries in Edo. The intervention follows the launch of a hospital built by the Jovason Group in Ologbo, where 138 cataract surgeries were reportedly performed the previous week.

The foundation also said another 50 surgeries were made available to the Edo State Ministry of Health through the partnership. Its representative described cataract blindness as reversible through surgery and encouraged affected residents to seek treatment.

The programme illustrates a healthcare delivery model involving state institutions and private organisations. The source indicates that the partnership is intended to extend interventions to residents while expanding access to cataract treatment.
