The assurance was given by Edo FEWMA Chief Executive Officer and Edo NEWMAP-EIB Project Coordinator Mohammed Bawa Okoyomoh during a capacity-building workshop for participating states in Kano.

The workshop involved the Government of Nigeria, UNOPS, the Federal Project Management Unit and State Project Implementation Units from the 23 states participating in the Nigeria Climate Adaptation – Erosion and Watershed Project.

National Project Coordinator Anda Ayuba Yalaks said the training was intended to strengthen institutional capacity, coordination and project delivery, with participants expected to translate the knowledge acquired into practical results.

Okoyomoh said the Edo team would apply international best practices and experience from previous NEWMAP interventions to the current project. He also said the state was prepared to implement the intervention programme.

The Edo FEWMA chief executive said comprehensive works to reclaim and protect areas affected by flooding, gully erosion and watershed degradation would commence as the dry season approaches, with vulnerable communities identified as the focus of the intervention.
