Ebonyi State Government has opened a three-day capacity-building workshop for local government chairmen and other officials, with Governor Francis Nwifuru urging participants to exercise prudence and accountability in managing public resources.
The workshop in Abakaliki brings together local government chairmen and vice chairmen, heads of personnel management, public relations practitioners, treasurers and coordinators of development centres.
Governor Nwifuru said the training reflected his administration's emphasis on human-capacity development and urged participants to use the programme to strengthen their delivery of public responsibilities.
He linked the workshop to the People's Charter of Needs Agenda, which he said creates avenues for citizens to participate in government decision-making, while stressing the need for trained officials to remain focused on their duties.
The governor specifically instructed local government officials to manage public funds prudently, avoid distractions and understand the processes involved in governance, while noting that their legacies would be reflected in their work.
Lead consultant and trainer Theodore Anazodo said the training could help participants exchange ideas and address knowledge gaps in public administration.
