The Commissioner made the call during a courtesy interaction with a delegation from the Greater Calabar Capital City Development Authority (GCCDA), led by its Director-General, Hon. Bassey Ekpo, at the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation complex in Calabar.

Pastor Cobham stressed that sustainable urban growth requires forward-looking spatial planning that anticipates population shifts, drainage requirements, transportation networks, and social infrastructure over the next half-century rather than focusing on short-term fixes.

Highlighting investor confidence, the Commissioner noted that a legally backed long-term development framework provides domestic and international investors with the predictability needed to commit substantial capital to housing and commercial sectors in the state.

Earlier, Hon. Bassey Ekpo explained that the GCCDA, established under Law No. 2 of 2016, oversees the Greater Calabar corridor spanning seven local government areas aimed at decongesting the metropolis through structured residential and industrial zoning.

The deliberations culminated in preparations for the Greater Calabar Summit 2026, scheduled to hold on September 29 at the Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel, where urban planners, policymakers, and stakeholders will finalize strategies for sustainable regional decongestion.
