The Akwa Ibom State Government has commissioned a fully equipped Model Primary Health Centre in Ikot Ekpe, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, as part of statewide activities commemorating the state's 39th anniversary.
The commissioning event marks the fourth healthcare facility inaugurated by the administration within eight days, addressing long-standing infrastructural gaps that previously forced residents to travel to Eket or Uyo for medical care.
Mkpat Enin Council Chairman Hon. Emmanuel Inyang commended Governor Umo Eno for rescuing the community from healthcare access challenges, noting that maternal and pediatric emergencies can now be treated locally.
State Commissioner for Health Dr. Ekem John emphasized that the facility is outfitted with modern medical equipment and staffed with qualified personnel capable of neonatal resuscitation and emergency maternal care.
Local residents and traditional rulers expressed immense gratitude for the government's intervention, highlighting how decentralized healthcare delivery significantly reduces out-of-pocket transport costs for rural households.
The state government confirmed that infrastructure commissioning will proceed across other local government areas in fulfillment of the ARISE Agenda's grassroots development mandates.
