The training was initiated by the Permanent Secretary, Svyr. Lucy Y. Z. Lar, as part of efforts to familiarise new personnel with the ministry's operations and official responsibilities.

The Head of Geology Department, Mathew Waya, explained that the ministry regulates mining activities in Adamawa, while mining licence issuance falls under the appropriate federal authority.

Staff were instructed to understand the state's mineral resources, the Mining Act and Nigeria Mining Regulations, alongside responsibilities including monitoring local mining activities, checking registration and encouraging compliance.

The training also addressed community engagement, with staff advised to ensure miners obtain necessary consent and clearance from community heads before commencing activities. Field safety measures, equipment and appropriate conduct were also discussed.

Mineral resources identified in the training included copper, zinc, barite, fluorite, gypsum, coal and uranium, with Yola South, Numan, Lamurde, Hong and Shelleng identified among areas where deposits have been recorded.
